As the Vice-Chancellor of Banasthali Vidyapith, Prof. Aditya Shastri worked for the
inclusion of contemporary development in women’s education while keeping the
ethos and values of Bharatiya culture and the spirit of nationalism intact. He led
the university to expansion of management education, initiation of incubation cells and a dedicated focus on artificial intelligence.
But always emphasized that remaining grounded is essential. He also encouraged the collaborative efforts of the OMRISE Research Group.
A doctorate from MIT, he received various awards and honours for exemplary work in education – including the JC Bose Memorial Award awarded by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the 103rd session of the Indian Science Congress in Mysore.
Prof. Aditya Shastri was popularly known as Bhaiya (brother) among the students of Banasthali. After the death of Dada, Prof. Diwakar Shastri, the deeply embedded value system of Banasthali became stronger. It continued to be one of its kind under the leadership of Prof. Aditya Shastri. Moreover, under this young leader, the university could continue to work towards the dreams of founders of reaching greater heights and attaining higher levels of excellence in women’s education.
“I have the fondest memory of him dressed up like a Sheikh in the Apaji Mela (Fair), which marks the birth anniversary of Banasthali University’s Founder, Hiralal Shastri. My batch mates had similar memories of him and recalled how happy he was dressed up like Santa Claus, Sardar Ji and once also in a Police uniform. He was always approachable and kind. We would always receive chocolate if we visited him in his office, and his smile and assurance that our problem is his problem made him genuinely deserve the title of Bhaiya.” – Gunjan Joshi
