Mahālakṣmī-Stotra

Praise of the great Goddess Lakṣmī. 

नमस्तेऽस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते ।

शंखचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ||१||

namaste’stu mahāmāye śrīpīṭhe surapūjite /

śaṃkhacakragadāhaste mahālakṣmi namo’stu te  /1//

1.You are the great creative magic power (māyā); salutation to You, Who are the seat of all prosperity (śrī)! The Gods worship You. In Your hands You hold the conch (used as trumpet during the pūjā), a disc and a mace (two weapons to vanquish evil); Great Goddess Lakṣmī, salutations to You!

नमस्ते गरुडारूढे कोलासुरभयंकरि ।

सर्वपापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥२॥

namaste garuḍārūḍhe kolāsurabhayaṃkari /

sarvapāpahare devi mahālakṣmi namo’stu te//2//

2.Salutations to You seated on Garuḍa (the bird on which the great God Viṣṇu sits); salutations to You Who instils fear in the demon Kola. Goddess, You remove all evil deeds; Great Goddess Lakṣmī, salutations to You!

सर्वज्ञे सर्ववरदे सर्वदुष्टभयंकरि ।

सर्वदुःखहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥३॥

sarvajñe sarvavarade sarvaduṣṭabhayaṃkari /

sarvaduḥkhahare devi mahālakṣmi namo’stu te //3//

3.You are All-knowing, You grant all boons. All evildoers fear You. Goddess, You remove all suffering; Great Goddess Lakṣmī, salutations to You!

सिद्धिबुद्धिप्रदे देवि भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनि ।

मन्त्रमूर्ते सदा देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥४॥

siddhibuddhiprade devi bhuktimuktipradāyini /

mantramūrte sadā devi mahālakṣmi namo’stu te //4//

4.You give success and intelligence; You provide worldly enjoyments as well as final liberation. Goddess, forever You are the body of the Vedic mantras; Great Goddess Lakṣmī, salutations to You!

आद्यन्तरहिते देवि आद्यशक्तिमहेश्वरि ।

योगजे योगसम्भूते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥५॥

ādyantarahite devi ādyaśaktimaheśvari /

yogaje yogasambhūte mahālakṣmi namo’stu te //5//

5.You, Goddess, are without beginning and without end. You are the great Lady of the Universe, the original Power. You are realised through the practice of spiritual discipline (yoga), You emerge (before your devotees) out of this spiritual discipline; Great Goddess Lakṣmī, salutations to You!

स्थूलसूक्ष्ममहारौद्रे महाशक्तिमहोदरे ।

महापापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥६॥

sthūlasūkṣmamahāraudre mahāśaktimahodare /

mahāpāpahare devi mahālakṣmi namo’stu te//6//

6. You are what is visible and what is subtle (invisible to ordinary people); You, Goddess, are indomitable as the great God Śiva; You are the great womb and the great power (śakti) of the universe. You are the great destroyer of all sins; Great Goddess Lakṣmī, salutations to You!

पद्मासनस्थिते देवि परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणि ।

परमेशि जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥७॥

padmāsanasthite devi parabrahmasvarūpiṇi /

parameśi jaganmātar mahālakṣmi namo’stu te //7//

7. Goddess, You are seated on a lotus. Your true form is the supreme Brahman. You are the Supreme Mistress, the Mother of the world; Great Goddess Lakṣmī, salutations to You!

श्वेताम्बरधरे देवि नानालंकारभूषिते ।

जगत्स्थिते जगन्मातर्महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते ॥८॥

śvetāmbaradhare devi nānālaṃkārabhūṣite /

jagatsthite jaganmātar mahālakṣmi namo’stu te //8//

8. Goddess, You are dressed in white and are beautiful with many different kind of jewels. You are in the world (or: You are the world), O Mother of the world; Great Goddess Lakṣmī, salutations to You!

महालक्ष्म्यष्टकं स्तोत्रं यः पठेद्भक्तिमान्नरः ।

सर्वसिद्धिमवाप्नोति राज्यं प्राप्नोति सर्वदा ॥९॥

mahālakṣmyaṣṭakaṃ stotraṃ yaḥ paṭhed bhaktimān naraḥ /

sarvasiddhim avāpnoti rājyaṃ prāpnoti sarvadā //9//

9. Whoever recites full of devotion these eight verses of praise to the great Goddess Lakṣmī, reaches success in all undertakings and obtains sovereignty in every respect.

एककाले पठेन्नित्यं महापापविनाशनम् ।

द्विकालं यः पठेन्नित्यं धनधान्यसमन्वितः ॥१०॥

ekakāle paṭhen nityaṃ mahāpāpavināśanam /

dvikālaṃ yaḥ paṭhen nityaṃ dhanadhānyasamanvitaḥ //10//

10. Whoever recites this always once a day, will be liberated from all sins; whoever always recites twice a day, obtains riches and food (actually different types of wheat and rice).

त्रिकालं यः पठेन्नित्यं महाशत्रुविनाशनम् ।

महालक्ष्मीर्भवेन्नित्यं प्रसन्ना वरदा शुभा ॥११॥

trikālaṃ yaḥ paṭhen nityaṃ mahāśatruvināśanam /

mahālakṣmīr bhaven nityaṃ prasannā varadā śubhā //11//

11. Whoever always recites three times a day, will be liberated from all enemies. May the Great Goddess Lakṣmī be always gracious to us, fulfil our wishes, and bring welfare!
