Know Yourself: The end of your fake ‘I’
A new word-for-word translation from the original Sanskrit of the Ashtavakra-gita with devanagari text, transliteration and a glossary, enriched by the wisdom of Sri Ramana Maharshi.
If you think you know yourself, you are wrong. Your self, that feeling of individuality, is nothing more than a deceitful fantasy – the ego, which is your fake ‘I’. It is the source of all your problems and hence those of this possessed world. If you want to know who you really are, you must free yourself from this fake ‘I’. To improve the world you must begin with yourself. It is so simple. Why don’t we do it then? The Ashtavakra-Gita says that you are unknowingly addicted to your fake ‘I’. It tenaciously identifies itself with your body, your mind and all your worries and anxieties. But you are not your body nor your mind nor your ego. This fake ‘I’ conceals your true Self. Because in the depths of your heart this is what you already are and always have been. You don’t have to search for it by practicing various Yogas and meditations. Those only strengthen the ego.
This centuries old revolutionary message is so explosive that, except for spiritually ripe minds, it has long been hidden by the Indian sages. The Ashtavakra-Gita is the unequalled and most transparent text about this mystery of the Self. The text is accompanied by inspiring insights from Sri Ramana Maharshi, one of the greatest and most respected sages that India has ever produced.
A forewarning: if you think that you are satisfied with yourself or would rather not be shaken awake, you should not read this book.
